GameScene is a free online games Web site created by CleverMedia, an Internet content creation company in Denver, Colorado. We make Web-based games in Shockwave and Flash and video podcasts. At GameScene, you can play these games for free. CleverMedia also builds custom games for other Web sites.
Here are the requirements to play the games at GameScene:
Yes. The games at GameScene free for you to play. We make money from the ad banners on each page.
Shockwave is a way of playing interactive programs in your Web browser. For Microsoft Internet Explorer, it is an ActiveX control. For other browsers, it is a plug-in. Either way, the Shockwave content can appear inside a Web page in your browser. Shockwave is made by Adobe, which also makes the authoring tool (Director) that developers like CleverMedia use to make Shockwave content.
Flash is another way of playing interactive programs in your Web browser. For Microsoft Internet Explorer, it is an ActiveX control. For other browsers, it is a plug-in. Either way, the Shockwave content can appear inside a Web page in your browser. Flash is made by Adobe, which also makes the authoring tool (also called Flash) that developers like CleverMedia use to make Flash content.
The best way to get Shockwave is to use the "Shockwave Player 10 Full Installer" available at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp. You can also download the "Flash Player" installer at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#fp. You can go to http://www.adobe.com/support/shockwave/ to test and troubleshoot Shockwave.
Your Shockwave will contact Adobe occasionally to see if you have the lastest version of Shockwave or Flash. Then, it will automatically download and install any new components. However for major upgrades you will have to follow the usual procedure of installing Shockwave. For Internet Explorer users, this will happen automatically as a new ActiveX control will be automatically installed the first time you hit a piece of content that requires a version of Shockwave newer than the one you have.
Go to our Shockwave and Flash version test page. This will show you the version number of your Shockwave and Flash.
All of our games require you to have either Shockwave or Flash to be able to play them. Shockwave and Flash are extensions to your Web browser. They are both made by Adobe. You use Shockwave and Flash to view our games the same way you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or another browser to view text and graphics.
To help our users get Shockwave working, we have provided a lot of information on this page. We also have a set of test you can run. However, please do not contact us about help getting Shockwave to work. Adobe employs hundreds of people to build, maintain and support Shockwave and Flash. They are a company with a market capitalization of about $18 billion. In relation, CleverMedia is very, very small. We have provided the information on this page to help, but please contact Adobe, not us, about problems with Shockwave and Flash. Thanks.
Shockwave is a Adobe product. CleverMedia only creates content using Shockwave. Here are Adobe's support links:
This means you do not have Shockwave. Go to Adobe's download area to get it, and Adobe's support area for more help.
The first thing you need to check is to see if ANY of the Shockwave games work for you. If none of them do, then you either don't have Shockwave or it is not properly installed. Go to Adobe's download area to get it, and Adobe's support area for more help.
Before emailing us, make sure you are using Shockwave version 10.1 and Flash version 8.0 or better. Also we recommend that you use Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.x or better.
Don't mistake Flash for Shockwave or Director. Flash and Shockwave are two different plug-ins. Many refer to Flash as Shockwave incorrectly. You will have to go to the Adobe's download area to get Shockwave.
These games use direct Internet connections to our servers to accomplish high-speed connections with other people on the Internet. Because raw connections like this are sometimes perceived as a security threat, some strict corporate firewalls will block them, thus not allowing you to play these games in particular. This usually happens in work situations, although some home providers may also install firewalls. Other than getting your network administrator to loosen up on the firewall restrictions, there is not much you can do.
The games at GameScene are all free for you to play. So how do the owners and employees of CleverMedia make a living? The answer is, of course, the ads. Just like with network television, radio and free newspapers, CleverMedia provides content for free and relies on income from the ads. So the ads are necessary. Without them, there wouldn't be any games.
We realize that some ads can be annoying, especially the ones that flash or try to trick you into clicking on them. We use a big ad network to serve our ads. They have hundreds of different ads running at different times. It would be very difficult for us to screen each and every ad before it runs. Screening each ad would also make our site very unattractive to advertisers and would soon lead to less revenue, which would lead to fewer games. Even if you do not like Web page ads, please extend to us the same courtesy of putting up with them that you do for television, radio and newspaper ads. Thanks.
Some browsers are for some reason capturing keystrokes and preventing them from getting to Shockwave. This seems to happen more often in Mac versions of Internet Explorer before version 5 and Windows versions of Internet Explorer provided by cable modem companies. It seems to go away if Mac users upgrade to version 6.0 of Internet Explorer and Windows users download the real Internet Explorer from Microsoft. There's nothing on our end that we can do to fix this.
When you press the Esc key in Shockwave, it will instantly halt the Shockwave movie. This means that any game you are playing will stop. You'll need to hit your browser's refresh/reload button to begin playing again. Unfortunately, this is a problem with Shockwave and there is nothing we can do to change it. So beware of the Esc key!
See this page for help with our high score system.
We get this question a lot. You do not "download" games from our site. You play them right in your browser window. There is no download needed. However, we do have a some games that you can download as stand-alone executables at http://clevermedia.com/shareware.html
Yes, you can license games from us. Or, you can use Homepage Arcade to place games on your Web site. Placing our games on your Web site without a license is a violation of international copyright law.
Yes! We love links. The only problem we have is when someone links to one of our game pages from within frames of their site. This makes it appear as if the games are on their site, not ours. It violates our copyright and our advertising agreements. It is strictly forbidden.
Go ahead. No permission is necessary for a straight, single, screen-shot graphic. We would love to know about it though, so email us.
Please make sure you are using a recent browser. If you are not using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x or newer, then please upgrade and try it again before emailing us. If you are using a verison of Shockwave before version 10.1, then please upgrade to that also before emailing. Also, go to the Adobe support page. If it does not, consult the Adobe Shockwave Installation help before emailing us. These steps will solve 90 percent of the problems we get and free up our time to make more free games for everyone.
If you still feel you need to email us, ALWAYS use our email form. It provides us with information that will help us help you.
