There are three types of games at GameScene: Flash, Shockwave and HTML5.
For Flash and Shockwave games you should be using a Mac or Windows computer. You need the latest browser (Internet Explorer 8 or newer, Safari 5 or newer, or Firefox 9 or newer). You must have JavaScript enabled. And you must have the latest version of Flash and Shockwave installed.
For HTML5 games you need to use the latest versions of either Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer on a Mac or PC. Safari and Chrome give the best results. You must have JavaScript enabled. HTML5 games also work on the iPad and other advanced tablet devices.
Yes. The games at GameScene free for you to play. We make money from the ad banners on each page.
Flash is a way of playing interactive programs in your Web browser. For Microsoft Internet Explorer, it is an ActiveX control. For other browsers, it is a plug-in. Either way, the Flash content can appear inside a Web page in your browser. Flash is made by Adobe, which also makes the authoring tool (also called Flash) that developers like CleverMedia use to make Flash content.
Shockwave is another way of playing interactive programs in your Web browser. For Microsoft Internet Explorer, it is an ActiveX control. For other browsers, it is a plug-in. Either way, the Shockwave content can appear inside a Web page in your browser. Shockwave is made by Adobe, which also makes the authoring tool (Director) that developers like CleverMedia use to make Shockwave content.
HTML5 games use a variety of technologies, some in your web browser, and some on the server where the games reside. HTML5 makes use of JavaScript, HTML and CSS -- three technologies used by your browser to display web pages. Only the most recent browser versions perform well enough to support gaming in HTML5. In addition, the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and most Android devices have advanced browsers that support HTML5 games.
You can download Flash from Adobe's web site at get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. Older computers may need an old version of Flash.
You can download Shockwave from Adobe's web site at get.adobe.com/shockwave/. And here are some older versions of Shockwave if you have Mac OS X 10.4 or older.
Your Shockwave will contact Adobe occasionally to see if you have the lastest version of Shockwave or Flash. Then, it will automatically download and install any new components. However for major upgrades you will have to follow the usual procedure of installing Shockwave. For Internet Explorer users, this will happen automatically as a new ActiveX control will be automatically installed the first time you hit a piece of content that requires a version of Shockwave newer than the one you have. When in doubt it never hurts to simply download the latest installer from the links above and re-install to make sure you have the latest version.
Go to our Shockwave and Flash version test page. This will show you the version number of your Shockwave and Flash.
Flash and Shockwave are both made by Adobe. You use Shockwave and Flash to view our games the same way you use Microsoft Internet Explorer or another browser to view text and graphics.
To help our users get Shockwave working, we have provided a lot of information on this page. We also have a set of test you can run. However, please do not contact us about help getting Flash or Shockwave to work. Please contact Adobe about problems with Shockwave and Flash. Thanks.
Here are Adobe's support links:
This means you do not have Shockwave or Flash or it is not working properly. See the links above and install the one you are missing.
The main cause for this is that you do not have JavaScript enabled. Or, it is possible that you have an older browser or your browser isn't functioning properly. Try the latest version of Safari or Chrome for the best results..
The games at GameScene are all free for you to play. So how do the owners and employees of CleverMedia make a living? The answer is, of course, the ads. Just like with network television, radio and free newspapers, CleverMedia provides content for free and relies on income from the ads. So the ads are necessary. Without them, there wouldn't be any games.
We realize that some ads can be annoying, especially the ones that flash or try to trick you into clicking on them. We use a big ad network to serve our ads. They have hundreds of different ads running at different times. It would be very difficult for us to screen each and every ad before it runs. Screening each ad would also make our site very unattractive to advertisers and would soon lead to less revenue, which would lead to fewer games. Even if you do not like Web page ads, please extend to us the same courtesy of putting up with them that you do for television, radio and newspaper ads. Thanks.
When you press the Esc key in Shockwave, it will instantly halt the Shockwave movie. This means that any game you are playing will stop. You'll need to hit your browser's refresh/reload button to begin playing again. Unfortunately, this is a problem with Shockwave and there is nothing we can do to change it. So beware of the Esc key!
There are many ways we could set up our high scores. We've tried many different systems in the past. Our current system uses Facebook profile pictures instead of names or IDs. This saves you the trouble of having to set up an account with us and having a new ID and password to remember. We realize it isn't a perfect solution as not everyone uses Facebook.
We get this question a lot. You do not "download" games from our site. You play them right in your browser window. There is no download needed. However, we do have a some games that can be downloaded as game apps for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
Yes, many of the games have an "Embed This Game" section under the game. This allows you to put the game on your site. You just need to know how to place the JavaScript.
Yes! We love links. Feel free to link directly to a game page or to any page at this site. No need to ask for permission.
Go ahead. No permission is necessary for a straight, single, screen-shot graphic. We would love to know about it though, so email us.
Please make sure you are using a recent browser. If you are not using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.x or newer, then please upgrade and try it again before emailing us. If you are using a verison of Shockwave before version 10.1, then please upgrade to that also before emailing. Also, go to the Adobe support page. If it does not, consult the Adobe Shockwave Installation help before emailing us. These steps will solve 90 percent of the problems we get and free up our time to make more free games for everyone.
If you still feel you need to email us, ALWAYS use our email form. It provides us with information that will help us help you.
